Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Diabetic ketoacidosis is an extreme and deadly metabolic acidosis caused by a severe lack of insulin needed to process glucose and is primarily associated with T1DM.

Sign and symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis include:

• Breath that smells "fruity" or like acetone due to the presence of keytones.
• Rapid, deep Kussmaul Breathing.
• Abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
• Cardia dysrhythmias.
